April 30, 2009

Mocanaqua Rope Rescue
Rescue, Engine, and manpower from Shickshinny Fire responded to the area of the railroad tracks in Mocanaqua to assist Moc Fire in a rope rescue. Patient was located down a 30-40 foot embankment. Once found patient was extricated and flown to the hospital.

Newport Township Brush Fire
Shickshinny Attack, Tanker, and manpower responded into the Lee section of Newport Township to assist newport with a large brush fire.

Shickshinny Valley Brush Fire
Shickshinny Attack responded to a large brush fire in the same area in Shickshinny Valley as the brush fire one week previous. The fire burnt along the pipeline and made it up the crest of the mountain this time before units were able to control the fire with forestry officials.

Hunington Brush Fire
Shickshinny Attack responded into Waterton Road in Hunington Township to assist Hunington Fire with a large brush fire. Units were able to access the fire from different locations and out the fire quickly after arrival.

Multiple Units Were Dispatched to a brush fire at the s turns on Shickshinny Valley Road. Fire started near the road and burnt up along the pipeline about halfway up the mountain before being contained.

Cope Road Structure Fire
Engine 175 Responded to a reported structure fire around 1:30 am on cope road in Union Township. Portable on scene reported fire to be out. Fire caused by apparent cooking incident. Structure did require ventilation. Fire was confined to the kitchen area.

Units were dispatched at around 2:30 am to a reported MVA on West Union Street in Shickshinny. United arrived to find no injuries, but damage to 3 vehicles as well as fluids on the ground.

Mocanaqua Station - Smoke In Structure
Shickshinny Fire was dispatched around 5:30pm for a report of smoke in the structure at the Moc Fire Station. Venthilation was required. The smoke was found to originate in a burnt out ballast for lighting fixture.

Waterton Road Brush Fire
Tanker and Attack 175 responded mutual aid into Hunington Township to assist hunington with a brush fire that was reported to be endangering structures. Fire consumed roughly 3 or 4 acres before being extinguised. No structures were damaged.

Belles Hill Road MVA
Shickshinny fire was dispatched to Belles Hill Road in Union Township for a reported one car motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arriving on scene, all patients were out of the vehicle. Heavy damage was seen to the front and right side of the vehicle. Two children were transported via Shickshinny EMS for evaluation.

Shickshinny / Mocanaqua Bridge Brush Fire
Engine 188 reported a small brush fire under the Rt 239 bridge between Shickshinny and Mocanaqua at around 9:45 pm. Engine 118 had the fire under control as Shickshinny Units were arriving on scene.

Attack 175 responded to assist hunington on a brush fire on the corners of Cope and Sorber road in union township. A couple acres of corn/high brush field burned. Fire was knocked down quickly.

Tanker and Attack 175 were dispatched around 2:30pm to a brush fire on Sunshine road near the split for Mountain road. Fire was under control quickly after units arrived.

Shickshinny Fire and EMS responded to a reported accident with an unresponsive patient on Sunshine Road at around 3p.m. Upon arrival, patient was responsive. Little damage was done to the vehicle.

Shickshinny Responds to Assist Hunington with Large Brush Fire
Multiple units, including attack and tanker 175, were dispatched to Blue Door road in Hunington Township for a large brush fire. The fire consumed about 15-20 acres of open field. It took many units to get the fire under control. Units remained on scene for a couple of hours getting the fire under control and mopping up.

Shickshinny Fire Responds On An Automatic Fire Alarm, Shickshinny Apartments.
Units from Shickshinny Fire and Mocanaqua Fire responded at around 3:30pm to an automatic fire alarm at the Shickshinny Apartments on Vine Street. Units arriving on scene discovered a light smoke condition requiring venting. Smoke was caused from burnt food on level 3 of the structure.

Shickshinny Fire Responds to Assist Hunington On A Structure Fire
Hunington Fire was originally dispatched at around 7:30 pm for a reported structure fire on Cemetery Hill Road in Hunington Township. Benton and Hunington on scnene requested tankers and manpower from Shickshinny and Hunlock Fire. Fire was knocked down quickly. The cause of the fire was reportedly a ceiling fan which caught fire on the first floor. There was extension from the first floor into the second floor and attic of the residence.

Shickshinny Fire Responds to Brush Fire on Killian Road
Shickshinny Fire was dispatched around 4:30pm to Killian Road in Union Township. PSP on scene reported an acre field on fire. Engine and Attack/Brush 175 arrived on scene and the brush fire was reported under control shortly after. A burning leaf pile was to and dry conditions were to blame for the fire.

Sunshine Road MVA - No Injuries
Units responded to a report of an MVA with no injuries on Sunshine Road in the area of 239. Units arrived to find a truck with minor damage stuck in dangerous spot on a hill. Crews set up emergency lights on each side of scene and until a tow truck could arrive to remove the vehicle. A thin glaze of ice was to blame for the accident.

SVFD Responds To Hunington Township Garage Fire
Units responded to a report of a working 4 car garage fire on Waterton Road. Engine 175 established fill site. Tanker 175 assisted in bringing water to scene with Hunington, Benton, and Hunlock Creek tankers. Hunington and Benton drafted from the pond which was set up on Waterton road. Fire was knocked down, but building will be a total loss.

Busy Day for SVFD.
With the high winds and rains, Shickshinny units were dispatched to various locations for reports of trees and or wires down. Shickshinny units responded to Mountain Road, and Vine street in Shickshinny for trees and wires down. Shickshinny was also dispatched mutual aid into Mocanaqua to assist with a large tree down and multiple power poles on the ground.

SVFD Responds to Krushka Road MVA With Injuries.
575, and 175 rescue directed to this call. 575 arrived on located to find a one car over the embanked all patients out of the vehicle smoking, and still running 175 rescue arrived with F-5 and asked for a engine form Hunlock to respond. !75 units cleared the mva on 239 them brought the engine. Hunlock Creek Engine 3 also came to scene.
